Argudell Olive Oil: An indigenous variety from Empodà - Costa Brava

Argudell is an olive variety native to Empordà and an essential part of CANIGOOIL's identity. Traditionally cultivated in this area, it stands out for its character, aromatic intensity, and ability to produce extra virgin olive oils with a highly recognizable personality.

When we started our project, we discovered that Argudell was still a little-known variety outside the region. We saw extraordinary value in it and the opportunity to contribute to its conservation, recognition, and dissemination through oils that faithfully expressed its characteristics.

A VARIETY LINKED TO THE TERRITORY

Argudell is part of Empordà's olive-growing tradition. Its cultivation is closely related to a landscape marked by the Mediterranean climate and the Tramuntana wind, factors that contribute to defining the character of the olive trees and their fruits.

It is a variety that allows for the production of intense and balanced oils, especially valued for their green profile, aroma, and the elegant presence of bitterness and spiciness.

At CANIGOOIL, we work to give visibility to this olive and showcase its full potential, both through oils for daily consumption and through early harvest elaborations and oils certified by the Designation of Origin Oli de l’Empordà.

WHAT IS ARGUDELL OLIVE OIL LIKE?

Extra virgin olive oil made with Argudell olives usually presents a profile with a predominance of green and vegetal aromas.

Its characteristic notes may include:

  • Fresh grass.
  • Tomato and tomato plant.
  • Artichoke and other vegetable sensations.
  • Green banana.
  • Almond.
  • An elegant bitterness.
  • A balanced and persistent spiciness.

The result is an oil with character, yet harmonious and versatile, capable of adding intensity without masking the flavor of food.

AUREAM ARGUDELL DOP OLI DE L’EMPORDÀ

Among our oils is Auream Argudell, our extra virgin olive oil certified by the DOP Oli de l’Empordà.

It is made exclusively with 100% Argudell olives cultivated and milled within the area protected by the designation. This oil represents one of the purest expressions of our relationship with the territory and our commitment to the Argudell variety.

According to its official sensory panel, Auream Argudell presents a medium fruitiness with a predominance of green fruitiness, notes of fresh grass, tomato and tomato plant, nuances of banana and almond, and an elegant balance between bitter, spicy, and a slight final sweetness.

ARGUDELL OILS WITH DIFFERENT PROFILES

In addition to our oil certified by the DOP Oli de l’Empordà, at CANIGOOIL we develop other extra virgin olive oils made with the Argudell variety.

Each oil is identified and presented according to its origin, production process, and characteristics. The reference to the DOP Oli de l’Empordà is used exclusively in products that are officially certified by the designation.

This differentiation allows us to explore different interpretations of the Argudell variety and offer oils with different profiles, intensities, and uses.

HOW TO ENJOY ARGUDELL OIL

Due to its balance of green aromas, bitterness, and spiciness, Argudell extra virgin olive oil is particularly interesting for raw consumption.

It can be used in:

  • Bread with tomato.
  • Salads and vegetables.
  • Fish and seafood.
  • Grilled meats.
  • Rice dishes and Mediterranean cuisine.
  • Cheeses, creams, and appetizers.

A few drops are enough to add aroma, freshness, and personality to a simple recipe.

OUR COMMITMENT TO ARGUDELL

For CANIGOOIL, working with Argudell is not just about producing oil. It means contributing to preserving a variety linked to our history, valuing agricultural work, and helping more people discover Empordà's olive heritage.

Being part of the DOP Oli de l’Empordà represents an important step in this commitment and allows us to continue promoting, with greater guarantees, the oil produced in our land.

From Agullana, we continue to work so that Argudell occupies the place it deserves: a variety with identity, history, and extraordinary gastronomic potential.
